  • network name (aka SSID) : eii
  • authentication protocol : WPA
  • network password : vltischool

When connected, read school content over http://server/twiki

Your laptop should be configured to use DHCP in order to get a valid IP address.

Web Sites Access

A local web server has be set up and is available on http://server.org/twiki/. To learn more about TWiki, visit the TWiki web.

Here are some reference websites replicated on the local network for your convenience:

ALERT! Because the network is standalone (i.e not connected to Internet), those website mirrors may not be complete (external references missing, pictures, ...).

Internet Connection

There is no free Internet connection provided by IGESA, so desktop computers cannot access the Internet.

But 3 paid connection tokens (one person at a given time) can be shared (!) amongst participants using WiFi and your own laptop: The expired ones have been deleted to keep the list simple.

Network

All desktop PC are networked and connected to a central server for administration and data distribution purpose.

Workstation Map

The host names of workstations are DC-7800-nn for IP address 192.168.0.nn, where nn is written on each workstation sticker.
Here is a map of the tutorial room seen from the server desktop at the back near workstation 01 while looking at the front of the room:

Printing

A HP Color LaserJet 2605dn network printer is available on 192.168.0.249.

Server

A central server have been prepared and installed by Sylvain and Guillaume, mainly to distribute data and software and provide the following services:
  • NFS server, dynamically distributing data stored on the server (in /mariotti/home/data/porquerolles/nfsShare/) to each workstation (accessible in /home/nfsShare/);
  • HTTP server, accessible from any workstation or laptop on the eii WiFi by pointing your favorite web browser to http://server.org;
  • RPM database server for software installation;

The school-related data on the server are in /mariotti/home/data/porquerolles/.
The /mariotti/home/data/porquerolles/school/ server subdirectory is the source of all data replicated on each workstation.
Teachers can put some files in it and distribute them to all workstations at once using a single command (as root) : rsyncFromMacminiToClients.sh

Other commands can also be run (as root) on all the clients at once using PSSH : pssh -P -t -1 -h /root/hostList.txt "urpmi --auto mpmath"

The server IP address is 192.168.0.250.

After a server reboot (electricity shortage, ...), you should enter the following commands (as root):

cd /root/porquerolles/admin
./serverSetup.sh

[root@server admin]# more /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
