Ionized Gas in Active Galactic Nuclei Hagai Netzer The lectures will include a description of all important processes related to the interaction between the strong radiation field produced by AGN and the surrounding gas. Depending on the gas location and density, such an interaction produces several distinct regions with well characterized spectral signatures. The main emphasis will be on the physics of photoionized gas and the emission and absorption processes in three regions: the broad line region (BLR), the narrow line region (NLR) and the highly ionized gas (HIG).
